University Taqueria

This is my personal FAVORITE Mexican spot in Berkeley! I wish they were open for dinner. I've only been here once because it's only open from 9 to 3, but I will return. The chicken quesadilla (pictured) was so good and they hook it up! Service is incredible and LIGHTYEARS ahead of inferior competitors in the surrounding area. I love University Taqueria. This place rocks! Delicious Mexican food, such kind employees, and reasonably priced for the Berkeley area. Free salsa bar where you pick your own. Small sitting area but love getting their food to go b/c it's ready for pickup in 10 mins.

Fast service with self serve salsa bar. Large burrito portions. everything i wanted after a few hours of tiresome classes. great quality tortilla chips

We were on a Breakfast Burrito binge. We were trying as many top-rated breakfast burritos as possible. We came across this place while waiting for another place. This place was better than the rest!!! Absolutely great!!! Go here as good, if not better, than all the other top-rated burrito places. They got our order wrong, but it's still AMAZING!!! I asked for toasted and Acado instead of guacamole. But they did not toast and put guacamole.

The tacos are the bomb! I've tried pretty much every protein and all are good. Employees are really nice and food comes out pretty quickly. Definitely recommend.

The location of this restaurant is where El Pollo Picante used to be, before joining up with Berserk Burger and moving across the street. The inside of the store is pretty small and can't really accommodate more than 5 people in terms of seating. However, it was alright as we ordered our food to go. I ordered the California Burrito and they asked me for my choice of meat and beans, so I got carne asada and pinto beans. The burrito is honestly massive, coming with a small bag of chips and two sauces as well. It's really juicy and is a good example of what a California Burrito should be. Each bite into it got better as I went along with my meal. It does get really oily by the end, but it's most likely due to all the juices trickling down the burrito as time went on. The chips were lightly salty and while I wish there could have been more, I was able to space them out pretty evenly throughout. I solely used the green sauce, which had a nice spice level to it. The service was really quick as there weren't that many people around ordering anyways. The restaurant is located on University Avenue, so there is street parking, but you may have to go out of your way to find that parking if the spots are taken up depending on the time of day.

I'll never say no to tacos! I placed my order on snackpass around noon on a Friday and my order was ready in 10 minutes. I got three tacos for $3.50 each and a churro. For meats, I got carne asada, Al pastor, and pollo asada. The carne asada was my favorite. They did not skimp on the filling! Lots of meat, which was topped with a lot of red onion and cilantro. The red onion was really fresh. The tacos came with a bag of chips and 3 types of salsa. The churro was also really good. Crispy, sugary, fried dough? What's not to love. The interior is pretty small. There are a few small tables inside and a couple small tables outside. Personally, I'll always be getting my orders on the go. Overall, I would come back again and am curious to try other items on the menu.

Food is delicious! You can tell that fresh ingredients are used. Service is great, everyone is very friendly and welcoming. Our new go to Taqueria.

My new fav taco spot in Berkeley. So juicy, so tasty. I got the carne asada and al pastor and both were bursting with flavor. It's definitely a grab and go type of place, but I'll be back every time I have a taco craving and want to chill on campus.

Love this spot! Very generous portion sizes. Giant burritos packed with flavor. The carne asada is my favorite. Their guacamole is always fresh and every order comes with a small side of fresh tortilla chips. Ate here at least 5 times now and they’re consistently delicious. Additionally, their horchata is very authentic and delicious!

Highly encourage folks to try out this new taqueria! Food was flavorful, delicious, and made fresh (off the grill).

Yep, still Fried chicken sandwich Nirvana! Sure they are listed as #33 in the state, that makes them #1 in Berkeley. Sandwich w/fries or just without. Any questions? Buy their sandwich. Wake up, Walk up, and fill ur belly with pollo picante :)

The best fried chicken sandwich around. Hands down. There are some good ones in Oakland like HB but honestly this place is better. Not just a little but a good 1.5-2 points better on my scale of 10 9meaning everyone else is below an 8). I ate there 3 times before leaving this review and consistency is key in flavor, texture, lack of oiliness, and most importantly the sandwich travels well. I drove once 15min after getting my food and the bun was not soggy and the chicken breast coating was still crunchy. Great spiciness. Will keep going as there are good ones around but this is the best IMHO.

LOVE the spicy fried chicken sandwich, and was unsurprised to learn the fried chicken wrap and tenders are also the bomb. I always get a side of onion rings and every sauce they have - don't miss their spicy honey! When they started opening Saturdays, my weekends got better. Go visit so they'll open on Sundays too!

I am here for the street tacos because they are delicious, simple, and remind me of home. 10/10 recommend.

Hands down the best chicken sandwich I have ever had the pleasure of eating! Staff is super friendly, and they make the chicken to order so that it's super fresh when you get it. The fries and mac & cheese are also top notch, and their prices were very reasonable given the large amount of food they give. I'd give them 10 stars if I could!

I have been wanting to go here for so long after seeing all the amazing pictures of their food. Today I finally made that happen and I was not disappointed. I placed my order with Lupe and she was very friendly and helpful considering I placed a large 4 person order right as they opened. After about 10-15 minutes she comes out with two bags packed with food. I was so impressed with the quantity of food they provide for very affordable prices. But the wow doesn't stop there. Me and my friends open our boxed up food and there is mounds of fries, like a literal mound. Their french fries are some of the best I have ever had. Perfection! We are all so blown away by the quality of food El Pollo Picante offers and we haven't even got to the main course. Two of my friends got the spicy chicken wrap and me and another friend got the double spicy chicken sandwhich. The wraps are basically super burritos stuffed with crispy chopped chicken. And don't get it confused that there is a bunch of filler and then a few pieces of chicken here and there. This thing is STUFFED with chicken. Then you have the double chicken sandwhich. Where do I start?!? The fresh brioche bun that still has flour on the bottom, or the massive fresh crispy chicken strips, or their homemade spicy sauce. I mean I know I have gone on a rant here, but this place is legit the best chicken sandwhich spot I have ever been to in every way possible. If they keep doing what they are doing, I will be a customer for life!!!
